This is the second week of snowfall here in North Texas.  It's not unusual to have snow here.  Each year we normally have one good event and then we are finished.  This is the second week of very cold temps, ice and snow.  We woke up this morning to another 3 inches.  Certainly we can't compare with the northeast.

My youngest daughter celebrate her 27th birthday this past weekend.  A family gathering at her favorite restaurant was in order.

I'm working on a secret knitting project and this part is almost complete. I will be pleased to move onto the next color and phase of this project.

Lilah's sweater is finished and she loves it!  The sleeves were a little long, but she will grow into it. I used those same little vintage buttons that were on Rachel's.  They were just too cute .

I attended Evelyn's Thanksgiving feast at her Preschool.  Chicken nuggets became turkey:))). I'm not sure why that tongue kept popping out, but she was clearly happy I was there!

Patrick has a cute friend at his school.  I have become friends with her mother as we wait each day for the littles.  His drawing shows how special he thinks she is:). Cue chuckles.....

Real

I have shared with you the story my my daughter Caitlin's piano.  The one she received from Make A Wish 12 years it ago.  For her own reasons, it has now found a new home, a former elementary student of mine.  It arrived in Colorado yesterday after weeks of travel and weather delays.  I think the setting is beautiful!  Many happy years to Caroline!

This is the lone zinnia left.  Leaves are accumulating in piles and the hydrangeas are turning their beautiful shades of copper.  As much as I love the planting in spring, I really think as I grow older it is fall that captures me.  Maybe because as I age I see it in such new light.

I continue to post this picture of my youngest daughter and Nin Pham, the nurse diagnosed with Ebola.  They were high school classmates.  Please continue to pray not only for Nina and now the other nurse infected. And please offer up prayers for guidance for those making decisions and all those caring for the sick.

That top photo is the first pumpkin bloom!  August, and I am thinking of pumpkins.  Having not grown them before, I am fascinated by the process.  I knew they would take up a lot of room and I prepared for that.  Just fun to watch the growth!  The heat has returned here in North Texas.  After a wonderful week of low temps, we are now back in the low 100's.  What you see above is surviving by constant care. At the bottom of this post you will see what happens when the sun beats down relentlessly.

I posted before that I received a large order of Drawstring bags from a Dallas Yarn shop.  I worked several days to get them together.  Take a look in the Etsy shop as there are new inventory there as well!

We have had to block Atticus's cat door into the house.  He has started bringing in lizards, grasshoppers, butterflies and dragonflies.  As much as I know he does this out of love, I don't really want that kind of love. :)))  Last night as we were getting into bed I heard him running in the bedroom hallway.  Yes, he and a lizard were fighting it out!  Sorry Atticus!!  I'm done!

This is what the heat is doing to my Obedience Plants.  They are just wilting no matter how much water they get.  When these were planted years ago we were not having this incredible heat that we do now.  I may take them out this fall and put in a more heat tolerant substitute.  But they are special to me.  These were given to me by the girl's pre-school teacher about 26 years ago.  I really hate to just pull them all out.  That will take a little thought.

The yarn bowl in that top picture was a birthday gift this week.  My youngest daughter had it hand forged for me.  The color in the photo doesn't really bring out the blues in it.  I loved this style as it is shallow and the design around the sides look like waves.  If I can't be near the water this summer I can at least knit from a bowl that looks like it!

This beautiful butterfly seems to love the Abelia in my front yard.  He was really quite large.  Approx. 3.5 inches across!

Yes I have reached that milestone!  Tuesday was the big day. My oldest and youngest daughter treated me to a full day of fun and then a big family dinner.  Just an all around lovely day!

If you look in the background of that top picture you will see little Evelyn in tears.  At 2 years of age, she still thinks all the candles are for her.  We lit a couple of them a second time so she could blow tout with Grandmother.  :))

 My hair seems to be graying at a very alarming rate.  Not sure how I really feel about it.  I know I don't want to add any color as the drawbacks to that healthwise are not good.  Time will tell!

As I wrote earlier in the week, Mr. Golfer and I had 3 of the grandchildren for 3 days while their parents went on an Anniversary trip.  It turns out that they loved to play with the most unexpected items!

This time of year is just glorious for the garden!  Unusually mild this summer, today we had loads of rain and everything just perked up and the colors shine. That top picture is obviously not outdoors, but on a gray day even those colors shine from the kitchen table,

With the blanket finished in breakneck speed, I have moved on to a little sweater for the granddaughter below.  Rachel will be two in October. That blanket you see her holding onto?  She has coveted it since the day she was born ( of course that makes me sad:)))). So I am going to gift her with a little sweater.  It originally was going to be pink sparkly, but the yarn did not want to be a sweater, so I pulled some merino/cashmere from my stash. Doesn't every 2 year old have a cashmere sweater?  I though so.

She just cracks me up with those 2 fingers in her mouth.  No thumb sucking.  Just those fingers.

Every Tuesday I make a trip to the library.  And every Tuesday I come home with a stack of books.  And every Tuesday I return unread books that looked good the week before, but weren't.  Yesterday I stopped in at Barnes and Noble.  I hadn't been there in ages.  I feel like a traitor buying a book since Mr. Golfer is on the Library Board for the city.   I have always enjoyed Barbara Delinsky.  Yes, she writes the predictable story line, but her style is comforting. Very homey.  And she is a knitter.  It doesn't hurt that this book not only begins with knitting, but the setting is Maine, my favorite vacation spot.  So far, as usual, I am captivated.  Knitting, gardening, Maine...what more do you need in a book?

Oh the garden is just so pretty!  My first green pepper and the beginnings of pumpkins!  Won't the grandchildren love a pumpkin patch at Grandmother's house!!!

Lilah is taking swimming lessons for the 2nd year.  She really drags her feet to get there, but then loves being in the water.  Doesn't hurt that she gets an ice cream after each lesson :)

I wish I had a picture for this section.  Sadly, I did not take a picture of my car being towed. :(( Yesterday was really just a miserable day.  It has been a long while since I have had a day like that. Having purchased a new iPad Mini the night before, we got home to find that it had not been set up properly, nor had my old one been cleared off so that Mr. Golfer could use it.

This morning found me at the Apple Store which experience resembles getting your drivers license renewed.  You want to put your arms over your face in an X and say, " No! Don't make me"!  But there I was and in the process I decided that the Mini was not going to work and went for the full iPad Air.   It took 2 hours to get it set and people let me tell you.....get ready.... None of my knitting patterns transferred.  None.  Nada.  We are talking close to a hundred patterns I had on my PDF app.  So I need to email iAnnotate and try to resolve this.  That is 4 years worth of patterns!

Then on my way home my car decided to let me know via message that I needed to stop the car immediately.  I was right at a La Madeline ( God is good:))), so I pulled in.  Mr. Golfer was not answering his phone.  Turns out he was at Adoration!   I called the insurance because we have towing assistance.  How do I know this?  For the first time in 35 years of marriage, we have had to have both cars towed in the span of 2 weeks!

I had put out a Facebook message as to what was happening.  So many gracious responses!  Thank you to all of my friends for wanting to rescue me.  My youngest daughter Mary was just a few minutes away!

The garden flowers are now in a lull and the trick to keeping the vases full right now is to look beyond just flowers.  There are many shrubs and trees in the yard that have pretty flowers and beautiful foliage.  The ones above are Abelia and Crape Myrtles. They are woody stems so they won't last long, but colorful none the less.

There is a stack of cut bags ready to sew and there is a stack of envelopes ready to mail.  When the" in and the out" are equal it is a good day!  I am humbled and thank you all for your support! Drawstrings is truly a God given gift!

What do you notice different about those pictures?  The beverage you say?  Coffee in the morning and wine in the early evening?  Yes, that's how I roll around here!

My best friend left for the Shetland Islands without me. I may never forgive her :)  Tuesday and Wednesday night there was a FB and texting marathon going on between Elizabeth De Hority, me, and my friend Betsie.  Elizabeth knows about hap shawls and yarn and Betsie will be where hap shawls are the history of the country.  How can you not bring back Shetland wool when you are in the Shetland Isles?
