Again?

This was the post where I shared the story about the yellow roses and my mother.  Who knows what it means.  I've given so much thought to it over the years and really had just began to let it go when this happened.  Over the weekend Mr. Golfer was mowing and called out to me to come to the back yard.  (This rose bush was the one I wrote about here.  A wonderful story I have shared many times. ) There on this bush was a yellow rose!  No way!  I stood there with my mouth open, no words coming.  How could this be?

Wet

In the last month we have had between 16.07 inches of rain.  If you have kept up with any news you know that Texas is flooding.  We are not in any immediate danger, and I certainly am praying for all those who have suffered great loss, but we are all ready for this to stop. Those are homemade sand bags that have proved very useful!

The garden is a mess.  It is too wet to venture out to weed.  I'm afraid if I can't work out there soon it will be a lot cause.

There are bright spots though.  A few blooms can't be found if you poke around and the lemons are loving the water and humidity.  Hopefully we will have a few soon.

This link contains a little history from 36 years ago ( this is where I grew up).  Mr. Golfer and I had been married 2 months.  the days this happened he was taking the Bar Exam, my mother was in the hospital, and their home had been destroyed by the water.  We were due to move in 4 days.  I was heartbroken to leave my parents with no home and my mother just recovering from surgery.  It was very difficult for all, but they did go on to find a place to live while theirs was rebuilt.

Weeds,Leaves and Humility

In online spaces we tend to only want to show the pretty, positive, and the good. We want to show our best and beautiful.  This time of year my yard is anything but pretty or beautiful.  The flowers are budding, but the weeds are popping up all over and that  wicked tree in the front yard is dropping leaves everywhere.  The garden is not a pretty sight. Just like my heart.

This morning after mass I went to confession. I was able to have a nice long time with our priest.  As young as he is, he has some great insight.  When I arrived home the sun had opened up and I took some moments to capture these pictures.  As I was shooting these pictures it dawned on me the similarity to my confession these weeds and leaves are.

We don't want others to see the ugly or bad.  It's humbling to show our weaknesses....in our yards or in our hearts.Yet if we don't humble ourselves before each other are we really humbling ourselves before God.  Aren't they the same?  Can we confess our sins and still be proud among our fellow man?  My heart says no.

So this year as I pull the weeds and sweep the leaves I'm going to also clean my heart as well as my garden.  Frequent confession, daily mass and and continuing to offer love to those around me.  I've never had this opportunity before and I believe God has called me to this time.

Greening Up!

It's the middle of March and I know many of you are still buried under snow and the temps are still subfreezing. North Texas weather is so fickle.  When we get intense winter weather it is usually short lived, but it comes with a vengeance. For the most part it is now gone.  Still cool, but mostly pleasant to be outside.

I did some strolling through the mess of my garden.  It has taken such a  beating the last two years with the heat.  I hope this summer I have time to really clean it out.

The peonies are popping up and I hope the blooms are plentiful.  Look at that flowering quince.  This is the first year to have so many buds.  Little bits of this and that peaking up.  The St. Joseph lilies always surprise me at how fast the bloom and how long the flowers stay.

I love having a seasonal flag out front of the house.  We moved it off the house itself and onto the front tree so it was more visible.  I have a flag for every month an special occasions town in as well.

Enjoy your weekend!  Mr. Golfer and I have another dance lesson:))
