I actually have had time for quite a bit of knitting this past week, but you wouldn't know it to look at this shawl. Oh, how awful the light is today!
Wrapped in Leaves seems to be never ending. Maybe it is the stockinette knitting. I'm really not sure, but although I know I am making progress, it seems it should be ready for the leaf border already. If I didn't love Mad Tosh yarn so much, I may have tossed this aside!
Oh wait! I think I did toss it aside ( just temporarily!) Having read numerous FB posts from friends who had received their Farmer's Almanacs, it is predicted we are in for a very cold winter. That is all I needed to hear to bring out the dpn's and sock yarn.
And since I decided to spend the afternoon at home rather than make another trip into town for my knitting group, I poured a nice glass of Riesling and settled in to cast on these:
V Junkie Socks in Mad Tosh Whitewash. The honeycomb effect is different than any pattern I have knit before. Intriguing
The reading is ridiculous. Instead of finishing a book, I keep adding to the stack. I found a great thrift store on Sunday and found the bottom two books for $1.99!
The Midwife's Tale is a diary written in the 1700's and who could resist a hardback copy of Anne of Green Gables?!!!
Daughter Caitlin celebrated her 27th birthday in Istanbul yesterday. This has been an incredible trip for her. Have I told you how much I admire this young woman? She has such courage and direction. Caitlin was diagnosed as a teen with serious Crohn's Disease and underwent IV treatment for 7 years. After doing a semester of college in Guanajuato, Mexico, she took control of her own health and has turned her life around. She graduated from the University of Texas with a double major in English/ Spanish Literature and then went on to the University of Chicago and received her Masters in Public Policy. She is a Policy Analyst for one of our State Senators. She is amazing and a role model for me in many ways.
Her last day in Istanbul was spent cruising the Bosphorus Strait. Turkey on one side and Europe on the other!
By the time this post is linked up, she will be on her way back to the US. Thank goodness! In light of the situation in Syria at the moment, it is none too soon! Pray please for a safe journey?
