~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well.
Welcome to another installment of Yarn Along with Ginny at Small Things.
I completed the Babar Blanket! The picot edge was just what it needed.
There is another blanket in the works in turquoise which is the 3rd color of the nursery. I have just cast on this afternoon for Cabled Blanket by Debbie Bliss. I am using Knit Picks Comfy Sport which is my all time favorite baby blanket yarn.
But currently I am working on the Aranami Shawl, also in Knit Picks Cotton. It is a first time prototype as I know I will have many requests for this shawl and I had colors to use in the cotton without purchasing any yarn at the moment. I am loving these little wedges and how it fits together like a puzzle!
The colors graduate as you move further up the wedges. The white connects to a sage ( which is not clear in this pic), then to a yellow, then a platinum and finally a darker gray.

The reading list is long at the moment and I am a little frustrated with all the books I want to inhale and the time just doesn't seem to match up. Another blogger had suggested The Summer of the Great Grandmother and the title intrigued me. I wish I had read this book when I was caring for my own mother. I think it would have helped me process what was happening.
Also just beginning this lovely read of connecting gardening with spirituality. Calming for sure.
The spring blooms are winding down. In a couple of weeks the early summer flowers will begin to appear. But I will leave you with the last of the peonies.
What are you knitting and reading? Please share with us all!
The Aranami Shawl is so lovely. I've had this one on my list for a while. Thank you for the book suggestion. My mother is nearing the end and this idea of aligning all the people she's been is on my mind so much these days.
ReplyDeleteThe picots on the baby blanket are just perfect! I like the design of your shawl. I'm curious about how it goes together.
ReplyDeleteThe first wedge is knit alone and the you just pick up stitches along the edge of it and begin to add. The chart is easy to follow although I found the written directions unclear.
DeleteI have been seeing that Aranami Shawl everywhere, it's calling my name!
ReplyDeleteYour colors are lovely.
It is a fun knit! And I think a good portable project. The difficulty was choosing colors. I looked at all the projects on Ravelry for days!
DeleteYour Babar blanket turned out so nice; the picot really does finish it. :)
ReplyDeleteyour blanket is lovely, the edging is perfect. :)
ReplyDeletehow pretty your knitting is!
ReplyDeleteWell done! love the finished blanket! Yes, isn't the book wonderful by M. L'Engle? it's a very layered book with her processing her Mother's illness, life, a lost way of life and culture ... it is really one of her finest I found myself thinking as I finished it the other week. Books sure can help us process things ~ even if it is a later processing than we would of wished.
ReplyDeleteOh my, I LOVE your Babar blanket - it is incredible! Wishing I had one for the snuggly two week old on my lap, although we do have lots of other hand knit blankets. Truly a beautiful piece of art, as are your other projects!
ReplyDeleteOur peonies are just getting ready to bloom; stuck on bed rest, I keep peeking out the window to see if there are any open. The scissors are ready for sending my husband out to bring some of that beauty in!
Love the picot edging, it does make the blanket!! Beautiful!
