Yarn Along

~Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading?

The No Purl Monkey socks are moving along.  I have turned the heel and completed the gusset on sock 1.  I actually would be finished with it if not for the project below.

A good friend of ours loves my knitting.  In fact he received the first pair of men's socks I knit a few years ago.  he hinted about a scarf and loves exotic yarn so I began a scarf for his birthday at the end of this month.  It is mink and alpaca.  I am doing just a knit 6 rows, purl 3 rows pattern.  Keeping it simple.

I hinted on Monday's post that I had a surprise from my trip to Austin.  Guage Knits was having a trunk show of Hazel Knits yarns. Neither shop here in Fort Worth carries it, although we have hinted strongly.  I knew which color I was going to get and thankfully they had it!  This is Saffron.  It will be paired with a lovely deep turquoise for the Whipporwill Shawl.

Last week on Ginny's post she had a picture of the baskets she had purchased for the baby's items. I was so excited to see that picture because I have been looking for those baskets.  Despite my internet searching, I could not come up with a sight.  When I saw her link I jumped right on it.  here is what I ordered.  It came within 5 days!  My knitting now has a home in and out of the house.

I hope that Ginny is doing well.  We are praying for a safe delivery and lying in for her.

  1. I like that scarf! Simple stitch patterns are the best, and it's amazing what dramatic effects you can achieve with just knits and purls. Your saffron yarn is lovely, and I'm glad you found that basket. I've been wanting one of those too.

  2. our nearby yarn shop (not close enough to call a LYS) had the mink and I was so tempted!! I bet it's fabulous to knit with!!!! You can even tell from the photo how lush it is. I got one of the African baskets at our local quilt museum...but my handles are different. They come together in the middle...not quite as easy to get projects in and out of....I love yours!!!

    1. The monk is actually not that soft initially. It does become more so after a bath. I have that basket you are speaking of and I agree it is difficult with the handles. That is why I jumped on getting this one when I saw the link.

  3. What a great basket. Mink and alpaca has to be the softest yarn ever! I love your no purl monkeys, I'm going to have to knit a pair of those.
